Monterey, CA

On October 4th, we continued our journey south, this time to Monterey.

We stayed at the Monterey Fairgrounds RV park. The park's not really a place to hangout for the scenery, but it's right in town and an easy bike ride down to the Monterey Bay Coastal trail. The Coastal trail is paved and hugs the coast. It runs 18 miles between Castroville and Pacific Grove and is great for walkers, joggers, cyclist, tourist etc.

We took a bike ride along the trail one afternoon and stopped along the way to take in Monterey bay, as well as seals, pelicans and cormorants.

While we were out on our ride we get a call from our friend Roland, who was on his way into town for a few days! We haven't seen him for almost 2 months when we had a surprised meet-up in Trinidad! It will be fun to see him.

One of the benefits of knowing a "local" is that he can point us to the good eats. Roland doesn't fail as he raves about the Mundos Cubana at Mundos, which is just a couple of blocks from the rv park. The sandwich certainly makes an impression on Tom, as he's ready to return to Monterey just to get another sandwich!

Another side trip we take if to find some artichokes that the Monterey area is so famous for. Our excursion takes us to the Pezzini Farms stand. There we find a whole treasure trove of fresh veggies and a fried artichoke truck!

As fresh and nice as these brussel sprouts were, Tom has declared them his vegetable nemesis!

The fried artichoke hearts were very tasty
